Langkawi: a tropical paradise in Malaysia that’s been a favorite vacation spot for both locals and international tourists. Regardless of the crowd and the rising cost of the trip, Langkawi is always a destination worth to be in your travel list! Here is the sample of 4-day itinerary you can use as a guide.
This is our first trip post COVID-19, our last trip was back in 2019 and the cost of the trip for similar activities increased drastically this round – flight, hotel and food were the huge contributor to the cost increase. In terms of shopping, Langkawi is still the best place to shop for chocolates and alcohols (thanks to the duty free) but other than these two, everything else can be shopped elsewhere for almost similar prices.
Day 1 - Where to Go and What to Do?
This was our very first flight with the newly launched MYAirline, booked during promotion total return trip cost us RM200 per pax (only return had checked in luggage). The overall experience was good, the return flight was delayed, but all communicated well – we have no complains on the airline and will definitely consider in future.
We stayed in Royale Chenang Resort – an average hotel, a little further than the famous Cenang area, need to drive out for food and shopping. Our flight was in the afternoon hence our Day 1 spent mostly arriving in Langkawi, picking up our rental car, checking in hotel and we spent the rest of the evening catching sunset in Pantai Cenang.
Langkawi is a food heaven hence food hunting was almost a consistent part of our itinerary 😊, our first dinner was in Palm View Seafood Restaurant, average food and the portion was smaller than it used to be. We ended up having roll ice creams and potato chips thereafter in one of the shops along the Cenang Walk.
Day 2 – Langkawi Sky Bridge: Stunning views of lush rainforest and turquoise waters
Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or an epic adventure – there’s something for everyone in Langkawi. Langkawi's sky bridge is a must-visit destination, and you will spend at least half a day here. There are few options on the package selection and what it includes. Check out this site for package details: Panorama Langkawi, we went with SKYCAB+SKYDOME+SKYREX+3D ART MUSEUM (RM43 per pax). We added on additional 6D Motion Adventure (RM20 per pax). Upon reaching the top, you still must purchase additional ticket for the SKYBRIDGE itself, RM16 inclusive of the SKYGLIDE, a to-and-fro cabin train. You can opt for walking down to the bridge, which takes close to 30 minutes one way. We opted for the SKYGLIDE.
The cable car ride is an amazing experience! Depending on the weather, you will be blessed with great views of the sky-blue water, lush green rainforest, and Seven Wells Waterfall. You have no limitation on the amount of time allowed to be spent on the Sky Bridge, you can walk and take amazing insta-worthy photos however long you want. The ocean extends as far as the horizon, this view from the bridge will remind you of the endless possibilities that our nature carries, (the feeling of joy washed over me when I stood at the bridge, there is so much to see and explore in my life, just like the endless ocean and I really shouldn’t confine my life to day-to-day routine).
We completed the SkyCab- SkyBridge first, to avoid the crowd – do take note when you are travelling during school holidays and festive seasons, the queue can be unbearable. We went for the 6D Cinemotion next, a very short video, lasting less than 10 minutes but gives you the 6D feels. SkyDome and SkyRex were also a short duration, I think we queued longer than the whole duration of the show. SkyRex is a must do if you are a Jurassic Park lover!
We saved the 3D Art Museum as the last stop – because it takes the longest and there are shows every hour – make sure you end up at the right place right time to catch it. The 3D museum in Langkawi is a must do for me – it has nine different zones, various interactive display and so much fun especially if you are visiting in a group!
We spent close to 10 minutes in the Oriental Village, there were plenty of shops for souvenirs and food (the weather was too hot for us to stay outdoor). If you are visiting the Langkawi SkyCab and all other activities included in the package, prepare to spend more than half a day here. I suggest having heavy breakfast and packing light lunch, there are not many options for food there, and it might be almost evening when you are done with the activities. We packed light lunch and headed for an early dinner at Fish Farm Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant is famous for its outdoor dining option and food was good too. This place is nearby the Eagle Square – good place to hangout for sunset and taking picture with the famous eagle landmark of Langkawi.
Day 3 – Langkawi Mangrove Tour: A Mesmerizing Journey through Langkawi's Enchanting Mangrove Forests & Dive into an Aquatic Wonderland: Underwater World Langkawi Delights Visitors of All Ages
The core attraction of Langkawi is without doubt the nature’s sanctuary: perfect combination of both land and sea activities. The serene waterways and breathtaking beauty of the ocean, Langkawi presents the nature’s finest showcase. You have various options when it comes to picking a tour in Langkawi, do not worry of pre-booking or not having many providers, you can easily walk across the Cenang Street and find any packages, even a night before the tour day.
We picked Mangrove Tour for this trip, we have done the Island-Hopping package in our earlier trip which covered Tasik Dayang Bunting, Pantai Beras Basah, and Eagle Feeding. Our Mangrove tour package costed RM400 per boat, we took a private boat since it was 8 of us. If you are visiting in smaller groups there are sharing boats too, will cost you roughly RM40-70 per pax, depending on the package you choose.
Mangrove Tour package lasted for 4 hours, and included all these activities: Bat Cave, Monkey Feeding, Fish Farm, Floating Restaurant (we opted out of having lunch here, didn’t have much selection of food), Eagle Feeding, Mangrove Sightseeing, Crocodile Cave, Andaman Sea Tour, Icon Kilim Geoforest Park, swimming at private beach, and fish feeding at Dangli Island. Do check the activities included in the package before you book one, make sure the pricing is for all the activities, you do have an option to add-on snorkeling – each gear cost RM35 per pax. A van picks you up from a pre-decided location – usually along the cenang street and the drive to the jetty takes close to 40-45 minutes. Our tour started at 9am and lasted until 12pm, we excluded the Floating Restaurant as we had better options of restaurants for lunch in the central area.
If you search around in the central area, food in Langkawi can never go wrong. We found this gem restaurant nearby our hotel, Zhong Hua Lou Seafood Restaurant. Food and service was excellent, parking can be difficult as the space is limited, but we had our best lobster here in the whole 4 days trip.
Our last stop for the day was at Underwater World Langkawi – I never miss this place when I visit Langkawi! PS: I love penguins 😊
Underwater Langkawi has good collection of marine and freshwater aquarium species. The best part of this aquarium is the penguin collections – so far, the best I have visited across Malaysia. Get the tickets online as it is cheaper, and it is recommended you spend one to two hours here.
Day 4 – Shopping, shopping, and shopping!
Langkawi is famous for its duty-free zone shopping, and that’s exactly what we spent our last here before our return flight. There are various duty-free shops, the prices are almost like one another, you need to do the traditional way of checking prices and promotions in each shop, we kept our shopping in Cenang Street as multiple choices are there. You can choose to bargain in several shops, but chocolates and alcohol are non-bargain items. We always stock up our chocolates when in Langkawi, more choices and slightly cheaper than what we get in Kuala Lumpur 😊
Despite being a commercial tourist attraction spot, Langkawi is still one of a jewel of Malaysia Tourism, it has good blend of nature’s connection, group activities, amazing food choices and shopping options. It caters for all ages and it never gets boring – it always worth it to visit Langkawi
